DESCRIPTION:A must-have for Board Directors\, Elected Officials\, CEOs and those interested in becoming Directors\; this workshop offers you the essential strategies and best practices of Boards who have discovered how to govern effectively\, efficiently\, and in a manner that is results oriented.\n\nIf you have attended a workshop with Deb McClelland before\, this workshop is new and will cover fresh content.\n\nThe 8 Responsibilities of a Board\n\nWhere do we draw the line between governing and operations? What are the 8 areas that the board is responsible for? How do we know if we are governing our organization successfully?\n\nDuring this inspiring course\, Deb provides the answers to all your questions on board governance. This session serves as both an orientation to effective governance as well as a refresher for those who have previously received governance training.\n\nWhat you will learn:\n\nGet clear on your role\n\nWhat is your board's role in good governance? What are bylaws\, policies\, terms of reference and what do you do with them?Be more strategic\n\n	How do you handle your board's year effectively and efficiently within your volunteers' limited time? We discover the board's annual work plan\, meeting agendas and strategic plan.\n\nDevelop your people\n\n\n	How do you find the right people for your board? We talk about the recruitment and development of all your directors\, having effective committees\, and the senior staff person's annual performance review.\n\nPlease note that space is very limited for this event. Attendees will also receive a printed and digital workbook as well as access to templates\, exercises\, and examples to help kickstart the development of your board's governance practices. \n\n\n\nAbout Deb McClelland\n\n\n\nDeb McClelland has served on many Boards over the past 35+ years\, some following the policy governance model\, most not. She has studied board governance for over 18 years and has become the go-to person for Chambers across the province in all matters pertaining to governance. \n\n\n\nDeb began her career at the Kamloops Chamber of Commerce in 1999. During her time at the chamber\, Deb has overseen her Board's change to the policy governance model and created templates that assist boards to transition in a practical and efficient way. Deb served on the Board of Directors for the BC Chamber of Commerce and is a Past President of the Chamber of Commerce Executives of Canada and BC Chamber Executives boards. Deb's passion is board governance and chamber management\, and she enjoys teaching and mentoring other boards and staff to transition to governance best practices.
