DESCRIPTION:Join us for an Unprecendented Chamber Luncheon!\n\n\n\nAs many of you know\, Xa:ytem\, the Hatzic Rock Longhouse Interpretation Centre has been closed for years\, unavailable to the public. We are very happy to announce that we have secured a date with Sto:lo Tourism to hold a one of a kind luncheon!\n\n\n\nThis event will include a historical tour of Xa:ytem with Cultural Advisor and Historian\, Sonny McHalsie\, sponsored by Vancity\, a traditional salmon bbq meal\, and a presentation by LOCO BC on the importance of local business and how to get involved in an upcoming BC Buy Local campaign in Mission. \n\n\n\nThis event is sure to sell out\, so grab your tickets fast!\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Bios: \n\n\nAmy Robinson\n\nFounder and Co-Executive Director\, LOCO BC\n\namy@locobc.com\n\n\nAmy has 18 years experience working with businesses to embed sustainability into operations. She has worked with organizations ranging from small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to big industry\, regional governments and the UN. However\, she has a passion for small businesses\, with their unique challenges and opportunities. Amy started the not-for-profit LOCO BC in 2009 to connect\, support and promote local businesses while advocating for increased local spending by consumers\, businesses and institutions. LOCO's work springs from her perception that BC undervalues the economic and social pillars of sustainability that strengthen communities\, build resilience and foster innovation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNaxaxalhts'i\, Albert (Sonny) McHalsie\n\nCultural Advisor/Historian and Honorary Doctorate of Law\, University of Victoria.\n\nSonny.McHalsie@stolonation.bc.ca\n\n\n\nDr. Naxaxalhts'i is the Cultural Advisor/Historian of the St :l  Research and Resource Management Centre.  Naxaxalhts'i has worked for the St :l  as a researcher in cultural heritage and aboriginal rights and title issues since 1985.  He currently acts as the cultural advisor on the Treaty Negotiation Team for the St :l  Xwexwilmexw Treaty Association.  He was a co-author of the book I Am St :l : Katherine Explores Her Heritage (1997)   focusing on his family and his daughter.  He contributed to and served on the editorial board of the award winning publication A St :l  Coast Salish Historical Atlas (2001).  He was also the author of We Have To Take Care OF Everything That Belongs To Us in Bruce Miller's Be OF Good Mind (2007). He also wrote the foreword in Keith Thor Carlson's The Power Of Place\, The Problem Of Time(2010). His areas of expertise include Halq'em ylem Place Names\, Fishing\, and St :l  Oral History. He has also been featured in many television documentaries for the CBC\, APTN and Omni. He is a member of the Shxw'ow'hamel First Nation\, the proud father of two girls and six boys\, and has six grandchildren. He continues to fish at his ancestral fishing ground at Asel w in the St :l  Five Fishery in the lower Fraser River canyon.
