Mission Community Services’ Multicultural Department is hosting Diwali: A Festival of Lights, on November 8, 2012 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the Clarke Theatre, 33700 Prentis Avenue, Mission.
Diwali is one of the major Indian festivals that are celebrated all over the world. Known as the "Festival of Lights", it symbolizes the victory of good over evil and lamps are lit as a sign of celebration and hope for humankind. It brings a cross-cultural celebration of life and brings a festive spirit to strengthen family and social relationships. Diwali falls on no-moon night at the end of Monsoons which also signifies cleaning, renovating, repainting and decorating the houses to welcome Lakshmi - Goddess of Wealth.
Mission Community Services along with its community partners, invites everyone to join us on November 8th as we celebrate Diwali in Mission! The event is FREE and will feature activities such as henna, diya painting (clay candle holders), children’s crafts, Indian classical and folk dances, and delicious Indian food cooked by Mission Sikh Temple and Rotary Club volunteers. The event is FREE but donations of non-perishable food items or cash for the Mission Community Services Food Centre will be greatly appreciated. For more information on this event contact the Kusum Soni, Multicultural Cultural Coordinator at Mission Community Services at (604)826-3634.
