Based on a true story, The First Grader is an inspiring tale about the universal desire to improve ourselves. After the government of Kenya announces it will offer free primary education to all, an eighty-four year old man shows up on the doorstep of a rural schoolhouse wanting to learn to read. His determination impresses the teacher and she brings him into her school, giving him a chance to learn as well as to come to terms with his difficult past as a Mau Mau veteran in British Kenya. He becomes living proof that you are never too old to learn.
